Because rain poured hard in the past days...
...I'm posting this song. (So timely di ba? )
Flood
Jars of Clay
Rain, rain on my face
It hasn't stopped raining for days
My world is a flood
Slowly I become one with the mud
Chorus:
But if I can't swim after forty days
and my mind is crushed by the thrashing waves
Lift me up so high that I cannot fall
Lift me up
Lift me up - when I'm falling
Lift me up - I'm weak and I'm dying
Lift me up - I need You to hold me
Lift me up - Keep me from drowning again
Downpour on my soul
Splashing in the ocean, I'm losing control
Dark sky all around
I can't feel my feet touching the ground
Calm the storms that drench my eyes
Dry the streams still flowing
Cast down all the waves of sin
And guilt that overthrow me
Lift me up - when I'm falling
Lift me up - I'm weak and I'm dying
Lift me up - I need You to hold me
Lift me up - Keep me from drowning again
This 1995 hit from Jars of Clay's self-titled debut album Jars of Clay is one of my favorite songs because of the:
1.) excellent guitar strumming. I really want to learn how to play this song but it seems like it will take me quite some time to do so. I'm not that good kasi when it comes to fast strumming and the chords are quite complicated pa. Gagamit pa ata ng capo. Anyhow, I think I need someone to teach me Where have my guitar instructors gone? Hehe!
2.) voice blending. Ang galing! Très bien!
3.) message of the song. It's about calling out to God and asking Him to pull us out and save us from drowning when our lives become "flooded" -- with tears, sorrow and sin -- and I found it so true in my life. Whenever I listen to or sing this song, I realize how desperate I am for Him.
By the way, their 8th album Good Monsters (ang ironic ng title ) has already been released September this year. I'm curious about the songs and the musicality of this album because the band, though originally known for their acoustic and drum loops sound, took various shifts in their musical style as heard from their previous recordings. For that, I'm planning to get a copy of their latest album
