The Classic
A lot of people find classic songs boring. Actually, I used to be one of them. Gusto ko nga ibalibag dati yung radio pag may oldies na kanta na pinapatugtog. Hehe! But if you give old songs a chance and try to listen to them, you'll appreciate their creativity and elegance.
Here are some of the old songs I fell in love with:
Close To YouThe CarpentersWhy do birds suddenly appear? Everytime you are nearJust like me they long to beClose to youWhy do stars fall down from the sky? Everytime you walk byJust like me they long to beClose to youChorus:On the day that you were bornThe angels got together And decided to create a dream come trueSo they sprinkled moondust in your hairOf gold and starlight in your eyes of blueThat is why all the girls in townFollow you all aroundJust like me they long to beClose to youThis song was played in the movie "So Close" (ang kulet nga eh, nagbabarilan at nagkakaratehan tapos mellow yung music :D ). I have already heard it so many times before pero when I heard it in the movie, noon ko lang siya na-appreciate. Very soothing kasi ang boses ni Karen Carpenter.
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes PlattersThey asked me how I knew my true love was true I of course replied, something here inside cannot be denied They said someday you'll find all who love are blind When your heart's on fire, you must realize Smoke gets in your eyes So I chaffed and then I gaily laughed To think that they could doubt my love Yet today, my love has flown away I am without my love Now laughing friends deride tears I cannot hide So I smile and say when a lovely flame dies Smoke gets in your eyesThis Frank Sinatra original (I guess) is one of my Mom's favorite. She used to play this at home almost all the time. Kaya siguro I get to appreciate the song. But the song on the whole is nice, maganda yung melody. Haven't heard though of Frank Sinatra's version. The Platters' rendition is a great one.
* Coincidence... Smoke Get In Your Eyes is playing in Yahoo! Launch while I'm writing about the song... :DThe Way You Look TonightFrank SinatraSomeday when I'm awfully lowWhen the world is coldI feel a glow just thinking of you And the way you look tonight.Oh, but you're lovely with your smile so warmAnd your cheek so softThere is nothing for me to love you And the way you look tonightWith each word your tenderness growsTearing my fear apartAnd that laugh that wrinkles your nose It touches my foolish heartLovely, never ever changeKeep that breathless charmWon't you please arrange it?'Cause I love youJust the way you look tonight...I fell in love with this song when I heard it sang sa BGs, yung bar sa baba ng office (o diba, may free live band kami? hehe!). Actually there are different rendistions of this song. Frank Sinatra's version (the original, I think) is jazz. Yung kay Tony Bennett di ko alam kasi ko di ko pa narinig (or kung narinig ko man, di ko na matandaan). If I'm not mistaken, I think his version was the one played in the move "My Bestfriend's Wedding" (tama ba ko? hihi!). Meron din si Micheal Bubble pero mas nagustuhan ko pa din yung original, i.e. yung mas luma... hehe!
Moonriver
Andy Williams
Moonriver wider than a mileI'll be crossing you in styleSomedayOh, dreammaker you heartbreakerWherever you're going I'm going your wayTwo drifters off to see the worldI'm not so sure the worldDeserves usWe're after the same rainbow's endHow come it's just around the bend? It's always just around the bend?We were in the Manila Pen when the mini-orchestra wonderfully played this song. Right there and then, gusto ko mag-sayaw ng waltz! hehe! (Di ko nga na-recall agad title eh, so I had to ask our technician, Mang Danny. Tanda na kasi yun kaya alam niya mga lumang kanta...hehe! Bati tayo Mang Dans! :D ) Nakaka-inlab na yung kanta because of its beautiful melody, sobrang galing pa ng pagkatugtog ng musicians. Because of the song I got inspired to: 1.) dance waltz (reminded me of "Shall We Dance" starring J.Lo and Richard Gere); and 2.) learn how to play violin or fulte and be part of an orchestra :)
Actually may ibang classic songs pa ako na nagustuhan. But these four are the ones that are constantly playing in my head recently.
